I haven’t wrote too much about the current pandemic, but I’ve been following the updates religiously (here’s where we see my inner journalist come out). Ireland, as a country (well duh, what else), has actually been doing pretty well.

As you can see on the graph, we seem to be on course for a relatively linear path. So, I think, this means we’ll be seeing near enough the same amount of cases every day for the next while until it (hopefully) starts lowering. So, basically, the pandemic may last longer for us, but we won’t have as many daily cases and deaths in comparison to other countries, which would be ideal seeing as we have damn all beds in ICUs.
As for student doing their Leaving and Junior certs, there’s been no official announcement on what the situation for exams will be, but there’s an update due to be announced any day now. From what I’ve seen, there’s two viable options for the exams: have them done as normal, but with tables spaced out more and less students in each room, or just postpone them til August and have the college semester delayed til October.
To be honest, there’s nothing new to say about college works and the likes. There are talks about a field hospital opening in UL but there’s still students living in on-campus accommodation, so I reckon that’ll be delayed until the official end of the semester to avoid giving refunds (yup, still haven’t gotten them yet). I do acknowledge that these are stressful and unprecedented times, and I can appreciate that nobody really knows what to do, but UL should’ve closed their accommodation relatively soon after the schools and universities were forced to shut. I think once Ireland officially went on shut down, the reality that we wouldn’t physically be on campus for the rest of the semester quickly became a reality, and the accommodation should’ve closed and issued refunds to those of us who were living there. But sure look, hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?
