Well, the past week has been… something. It started off normal enough, with talks of the college closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, but I genuinely wasn’t expecting Varadkar to announce the closure of schools and universities on Thursday. To be honest, it sucks. A lot of my coursework is reliant on the MacBook’s provided to the people in my course, as it has the relatively expensive software that we need to use, such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Audition. It also means that we can’t edit the audio that we have for our radio pitches, so it feels as though everything is on hold.
So, the story so far is that colleges will be closed until March 29th, but I’ve heard talks that they might just close for the rest of the semester, which I guess is fair enough, right? But I already miss all my friends and the UL campus itself, I really don’t know how I’ll cope in Mayo if I’m stuck here until the end of August. I’m also worried about the online lectures and tutorials as I learn more when someone is actually explaining things to me in person and I can see them work as opposed to just watching a screen, so it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Anyways, I’ll leave ye with some hand-washing advice from my English lecturer, and I hope none of us get corona in the meantime, stay safe lads!
